Development Goals

staff member with childFrom birth, children develop through their interactions with people and exploration of the world around them.

At Horn End we recognise the "Holistic" nature of development and encourage children to learn through play. We use the government framework entitled "Birth to Three matters" when planning our curriculum for babies and toddlers. Our curriculum focuses on the child and identifies four aspects of development.

These are:

  • A strong child
  • A skilful communicator
  • A competent learner
  • A healthy child

Our planning incorporates all aspects of development and is displayed in our rooms for parents to read. We send home a monthly plan identifying skills we are particularly focusing on each month.

Children's progress is monitored by daily observation note books and a formalised assessment programme. This links with our planning and Birth to Three matters.

Children experience a wide range of carefully monitored activities on a daily basis ranging from painting, singing, dressing up and out door activities. All our activities and toy timetables are rotated to ensure that no child misses out on a particular experience.
